Traceability and Quality Control: How We Guarantee Every Can

Making sure that every can leaving our factory meets the standards we promise isn’t down to chance: it’s the result of a traceability and quality control system that follows the product from the moment the raw material arrives until the preserve is ready for distribution. In this article we explain how this system works at Conservas Rías Baixas and why it matters so much for the safety and quality of the final product.

What we mean by traceability and quality control

Traceability means being able to follow the complete journey of a product, from the origin of the raw material to the final can, through every stage in between. Quality control, in turn, means checking at different points along that journey that the product meets the established standards. Together, traceability and quality control form a system that allows any deviation to be identified and acted upon before the product reaches the consumer. Without this detailed tracking, it would be impossible to respond precisely to any specific issue that might arise in a particular batch.

At our factory in Moaña, this system begins the moment the raw material is received, when the necessary data is recorded so that the origin of each batch can be traced throughout the entire production process.

How we guarantee every can we make

We have our own laboratory where samples are analysed at different points in the process, which lets us check that the raw material, cooking and packing meet the required parameters. On top of this, there’s control over the sterilisation process in our large-capacity autoclaves, a critical step for guaranteeing the food safety of every can.

  • Recording the origin of the raw material upon arrival.
  • Quality checks at different stages of the production process.
  • In-house laboratory analysis of representative samples.
  • Supervision of the sterilisation process in the autoclave.
  • Final review before the product is distributed.

This traceability and quality control system isn’t limited to a single stage — it accompanies the product’s entire life cycle within our factory, from the raw material through to final storage at our logistics centre in O Porriño.

Traceability doesn’t stop at the factory

Tracking each batch doesn’t end when the can leaves our production line in Moaña. From there, the product moves to our logistics centre in O Porriño, where tasks such as labelling, boxing and order preparation are completed before distribution. Maintaining traceability at this stage too is essential, because it allows us to keep identifying each specific batch even after the product has left the production factory.

This separation between the production centre and the logistics centre, far from complicating product tracking, actually allows us to organise it more efficiently: each facility has a specific role within the traceability and quality control process, which makes it easier to pinpoint exactly where any batch stands at any given moment.

Why this matters so much to the consumer

For whoever buys one of our preserves, this invisible work translates into a very concrete guarantee: knowing that the product in their hands has gone through rigorous checks at every stage of its production. Traceability and quality control aren’t just a regulatory requirement — they’re a way of living up to the commitment we make to every customer who chooses our preserves.

This work is also connected to other decisions that form part of our commitment to sustainability, such as the ozone cleaning system we’ve introduced at our factory, which you can learn about on our environmental commitment page. A cleaner, more controlled process goes hand in hand with a safer product.

A system built on more than a century of craft

The standards we apply today in traceability and quality control rest on preserve-making experience going back to 1907, detailed in the history of Conservas Rías Baixas. That combination of tradition and technical rigour is precisely what allows us to guarantee every can we make today at our Moaña facilities.

If you want to see the result of all this work, discover our full selection in the Conservas Rías Baixas online shop. Every can carries a system designed so you can trust what you’re buying.

If you have any questions about the origin or production of a specific product, you can contact us through our contact page. Being transparent about our traceability and quality control process is, for us, a natural extension of the commitment we make to every customer.
